popular belief, conventional wisdom would have one believe that it is insane to resist
this, the mightiest of empires.... But what history really shows is that today's empire is
tomorrow's ashes, that nothing lasts forever, and that to not resist is to acquiesce in
your own oppression. The greatest form of sanity that anyone can exercise is to resist
that force that is trying to repress, oppress, and fight down the human spirit."

Some News From Z
- We have recently added October, November, December,
and January Z articles to our author and topical archives, and for search.
- Our computer/internet connection has moved to ISDN.
Very inexpensive and very fast...if you need a fast connection and can't get a cable hook
up where you are, you may want to consider it. Of course, ISDN is also only in some
locales, but more than cable.
- We have begun some serious planning regarding Z
Radio, at last. It is still a ways off, but beginning to take some shape. We'll see...
- So the scanner we use for reading typewritten copy
and copying artwork into Z just bit the dust. You wouldn't believe -- well, actually, you
probably would since you use computers -- the hassle of getting and setting up and making
operational a new one. Ah well...
- We have just finished up preparations for some Sprin
Mailings to Z subscribers -- to try to increase circulation via some new premiums and to
elicit some new subscribers. Of course, you might want to help by visiting the Donations and Purchases Center...
- Z has upgraded its Desktop Publishing Software. We
use a program called Ventura. It was bought a couple of years back by Corel -- who do
Corel Draw, etc. Their upgrade, however, was dysfunctional for our purposes, and so was
another, since. So we are now upgrading from version 5 of Ventura to Version 8. This kind
of thing is very annoying and takes considerable time...you have to port over the
templates, etc. And you have to learn the new program's procedures and
idiocyncracies--mainly how to get around the "bugs." However, the new version
has many advantages and should prove worth the effort -- we hope. The first issue created
with the new program will be October, 1998.
- Z has a new printer. ITs resolution is four times
what we have been using and its speed is up by 2.5 times, the memory is quadroupled, it
prints two sides, and it does huge sheets, and the thing costs $1,000 less (not even
accounting for inflation) than what it is replacing sold for five years ago. Don't you
just love progress?
